Mathias Heise Quadrillion (MHQ) has existed since 2014. They play a refreshingly unique fusion of funk, rock and jazz. MHQ has released two albums, Sudden Ascent in 2015 and Decadence in 2018, both on Giant Sheep Music.
Mathias Heise plays harmonica and keyboards as well as writes most of the material. His fellow band members are Mads Christiansen (guitar), David Vang (bass) and Aksel Stadel Borum (drums)
The style is modern jazz, both original compositions by Mathias Heise and new interpretations of jazz classics – sometimes with special emphasis on harmonica great Toots Thielemans. Lineup varies.
Mathias Heise and multi instrumentalist Jacob Venndt pay tribute to their great harmonica idol Toots Thielemans. It is a musical experience varying from duo harmonica to quartet jazz with compositions that in one way or the other relate to Toots Thielemans – seasoned with anecdotes from Toots’ career. A musical sight seeing through swing, bebop, musette, samba, bossa, and pop – and of course some of Toots’ greatest hits!
